From the opening bars of “Leave the light on”, it hits you. The Cobra Dukes are no ordinary band. Ghostly synthesisers and bubbling moog lines weave through the drums like lost tape loops from Cat People or Midnight Express. Kyle Gibson’s dramatic vocal hooks rebound off the rhythms like a Psycho Killer-era David Byrne shouting down CBGBs before Lucas Gianello’s guitar riff takes hold and teleports the song into new wave delirium. Think of your favourite band and then think again, because there isn’t one that sounds like these guys…
Production is by Marcas Lancaster & Kevin McKay. Lancaster, fresh from his success with Man Like Me’s “Oh My Gosh” adds urgency and Bethnal Green panache while McKay’s time mixing the Mylo album and producing for Linus Loves ensures that the bass keeps warm and the electronics sparkle late at night.

Melbourne’s Knightlife (signed to Cut Copy’s label Cutters) delivers the kind of beat-heavy synth workout that would make Daft Punk proud while Ghent’s Culture Clubbers Fredo & Thang take the Dukes on a journey that’s part Switch, part acid-house and 100% dancefloor delight.
