Prestel is proud to present the new single from Romanthony.

For the uninitiated, Roman is the voice of the daft punk classic “One More Time”. He is also the owner of Blackmale Records and creator of dance classics such as “Bring U Up”, “Let me show you love” & “The Wanderer”.

“Curious” is the first in a series of new and re-released material from the New Jersey songwriter & producer. While the lyrics in this song explore the dark, sexually ambiguous side of club life Roman’s production is typically diverse. Aided by Mylo mix engineer, Kevin McKay he delivers four classic takes… The “Sheraton Vocal” is packed full of dark Berlin synths, heavy drums and Johnny Cash style guitar licks – yup it’s another warped slice of Romanthony pop. Imagine him backed by James Murphy and the Sons & Daughters rhythm section and you’re getting there. Providing the good-time balance is the “Controvocal” – a straight-up Prince-inspired disco jam. Lastly, there are two mixes for the mainroom: The “Peakhour” vocal is straight up Ibizan joy, the kind of bumping house cut that would sit right next to James Talk or John Dahlback while the “Tweakd Vocal” ups the energy levels ading some Hardfloor influences to the mix.

Remix comes from one of the leading disco-influenced producers of the day, Treasure Fingers. Already featured on the Discodust blog, this is one of the Atlanta-based producers finest mixes – all skippy beats, high octane synths and vocoder harmonies.
Will ACTH “Hot! Great to hear a full on house vocal again without it going he-he-ee-aa-ooh-ooh-stutter-stutter-blah-blah”
Stuart Patterson “This has got it”
Gildas Kistune “I think this Romanthony new song is great; Working very well.”
Dimitri from Paris “The man has definitely not lost it! I like Sheraton and Contro vocals best.”

Bent Van Looy, Reinhard Vanbergen and Niek Meul have been making music together since high school -though not the kind of music you might expect from a band called Das Pop. ‘At sixteen, we played prog-rock,’ admits Bent. ‘Bongo-laced, violin-fuelled prog-rock, to be exact…’ It wasn’t long, however, before their sound grew into something altogether more accessible and Das Pop was born.

‘Fool For Love’ is the first single from their forthcoming eponymous album, produced by the Soulwax brothers, David & Stephen Dewaele. Imagine Franz Ferdinand in the hands of Holland & Dozier and you’re getting close to the kind of hot rhythms and classic styling this record has to offer. Bent delivers a killer vocal and the band provide entertainment on the finest level, jam-packed with timeless dancefloor nous. They are your new favourite band.

Remixes come with a distinctive Parisian flavour. Young guns Yuksek & Brodinski provide the heavy-weight club damage while Ed Banger’s master of beats, SebastiAn, eshews his usual razor-sharp rhythms for a super-chic treatment of grand piano and butt-shaking beats. Finally Belgium’s soon-to-be-kings of Cosmic, Aeroplane, bring home the kind of blissed-out-yet-great-on-the-floor workout that makes you think that 2008 will be like 1989 all over again.

Released: 24th December 2007 (digital), 7th January 2008 (physical)

The Cobra Dukes are no ordinary band. Following on from the driving, soundtrack-esque space-pop of “Leave the Light On”, Kyle Gibson & co return with a record aimed squarely at the dance-floor. And “Airtight” is the kind of track that’s tailor-made made for the sets of Erol Alkan & Optimo. Tough punchy bass hooks, swirling special effects and some seriously club-shaking beats make the perfect backdrop to Gibson’s paean to the dark-side of physical relationships… Think the Glitter Band on E and you’re coming close.

Remixes comes from Optimo and blog favourites Aeroplane. JD Twitch is in typically floor-filling form, attacking the Cobra Dukes jerk-time synths with some clever twists and heavy bottom end while Belgium’s cosmic superheros offer a delightfully blissed-out journey filled with dubby guitars and classic keys.

Released: 10th September 2007 (digital), 8th October 2007 (physical)

Dada Life are Swedish bleep technicians Olle Corneer & Stephan Engblom. Their first record, “Big Time”, for the Breasfted label was one of the biggest club records of 2006 with heavy rotation from the likes of Rex the Dog, Mylo, and Gildas & Masaya (Kitsune).

Their first Prestel release, “Vote Yes” (see below) was a veritable rave juggernaut full of old school synths and razor-sharp beats.

“Fun Fun Fun!” is the kind of record you want to hear in those euphoric moments on the dancefloor where everything is A OK. Jam-packed with hooks and with beats to match, this is the kind of no-nonsense good-time dance music that makes raving in the sunshine such a pleasurable experience. Already featuring on the Kitsune playlist, this one is set to be a favourite for nu and old ravers a like.

Remix comes from the in-form Fredo & Thang. With London’s Puregroove saying that their Cobra Dukes remix, “rocks the dancefloor like you wouldn’t believe,” things are looking good for the Ghent-based duo. Here they take the turbo-charged original and flip it into the kind of old-school piano workout that sounds like Radio Slave jamming with Marshall Jefferson.

Cobra Dukes “Leave the Light on”
www.myspace.com/cobradukes
Released 30th July 2007 (physical) 16th July 2007 (digital)

From the opening bars of “Leave the light on”, it hits you. The Cobra Dukes are no ordinary band. Ghostly synthesisers and bubbling moog lines weave through the drums like lost tape loops from Cat People or Midnight Express. Kyle Gibson’s dramatic vocal hooks rebound off the rhythms like a Psycho Killer-era David Byrne shouting down CBGBs before Lucas Gianello’s guitar riff takes hold and teleports the song into new wave delirium. Think of your favourite band and then think again, because there isn’t one that sounds like these guys…
Production is by Marcas Lancaster & Kevin McKay. Lancaster, fresh from his success with Man Like Me’s “Oh My Gosh” adds urgency and Bethnal Green panache while McKay’s time mixing the Mylo album and producing for Linus Loves ensures that the bass keeps warm and the electronics sparkle late at night.

Leave the Light on (Original Mix)

Time is Coming

Remixes come from Knightlife and Fredo & Thang. Melbourne’s Knightlife (signed to Cut Copy’s label Cutters) delivers the kind of beat-heavy synth workout that would make Daft Punk proud while Ghent’s Culture Clubbers Fredo & Thang take the Dukes on a journey that’s part Switch, part acid-house and 100% dancefloor delight. But why take my word for it? “I love the Fredo & Thang mix – especially the second half!” says Mylo, “it’s as good as anything i’ve heard this year.”

Leave the Light on (Knightlife remix)

Leave the Light on (Fredo & Thang Glow in the Dark remix)

DJ feedback

Will ACTH “Im with Mylo on that one – remix is killer! will be giving it an outing at Koko tomorrow – DJing at the NYPC gig – reckon it will go down quite well!”
JFK (MSTRKRFT) “thanks, the knightlife remix is pretty dope”
Tony Senghore “I love the Fredo & thang remix… Really like the song in general.”
Paul Woolford “Thanks for sending me this through, I’m liking the Fredo & Thang mix”
Anu Freeform Five “fredo gave me their mix when i played with him a few weeks ago and i love it & have been playing it loads…it’s great to hear the original too – strong song!”
Jon Marsh “Quite liked the original but have to admit it’s the fredo&thang mix that works best. cool stuff, more please…”
